Assoc Prof Yanawit Kunchaethong, vice-rector of Silpakorn University, said that 28 artists ask to contribute one painting, with Wang Tha Phra as the central theme, for a project to mark the 200th Silpakorn anniversary.
''The university is a breeding ground for so many celebrated artists, but no one has done any work on this place before,'' he said.
Judging from its prime location, just a stone's throw away from the Grand Palace, Wang Tha Phra used to be the residence of high-ranking princes in the early Rattanakosin Period. The last turned into the country's first art school before upgraded to Silpakorn University. It is known to the public is Silpakorn University Wang Tha Phra campus.
This project, artists can make his or her impression of the university. All of the paintings will be showed in campus after the exhibition in September.
In my opinion, this project can make people who want to know about art or history of art and Silpakorn University can have more knowledge about them. And this project can support Thai artists to be known by other people from another country.
